Francine:
Strong Enough for Surgery
Francine
was admitted to Kindred Hospital South Florida – Fort Lauderdale from a short-term acute care
hospital. She was suffering from liver disease and came to Kindred for
continued care including nutrition and rehabilitation so that she would be
stable enough to withstand a liver transplant.
Upon
admission to Kindred
Hospital on May 5,
Francine was very weak and required moderate assistance for bed mobility and
transfers out of bed. She was only able to walk three feet with a walker. She
also required maximal assistance with her activities of daily living. She
required a feeding tube because her oral intake was poor.
Kindred’s
team of rehabilitation therapists began an aggressive treatment program for
Francine. After completing the program Francine was able to transfer out of bed
with minimal assistance and walk 250 feet with a walker. She was also able to
complete her activities of daily living with set-up.
Having
made tremendous progress, Francine was well enough to discharge home on May 29.
On
July 4 she had regained enough strength to undergo surgery for her liver
transplant – thanks in part to the superior care she received at Kindred
Hospital South Florida – Fort Lauderdale.
Francine
and her husband John are very thankful to the Kindred caregivers for their
continued support and heroic efforts to get her strong enough for the surgery.
Kindred Hospital
South Florida – Fort Lauderdale’s
success is apparent in stories like these as well as in our quality scores –
